Headlights

It's common for a deer
to run from perceived danger
the sharp crack of a branch
or the sudden flight of a bird
makes him flee
but in the headlights
a threat more perilous than it's ever known
The deer stills
In the uncertainty of the moment
he does not know what to do

Even as the lights fly toward him
Faster than any predator in nature
He does not move
He does not run
He does not understand
He does not know anything anymore
